Costume Photo & Sketch Night
Capture the magic and "Let it be Art"
19 spots left
Service Description
Purpose: Are your figure and portrait reference files kind of boring? We invite you to an exclusive night of capturing the magic when our models become a character with authentic, dynamic movement and costume. We’ll use Rembrandt-style lighting with a wee bit of bounce light. We are looking for interesting shadows that reveal features, swishes of cloth and postures better than regular classroom lighting allows. The Norse Storyteller, Amerie Helton, has more than 30 years of SCA history with her persona Dervilla ni Leanon in the Kingdom of Atlantia. Her costume is almost completely historically accurate from 960 AD in Jorvik, which is Viking York in England. The dapper gentleman is none other than Harold Clurman (Ronald Rand) in full double - breasted suit, fedora, opera cloak, cigar, and cane. Each of these characters is fluent in their period movement and history, and quite full of dramatic and dynamic poses. Be prepared to capture close-ups, full figure, seated, and other poses for your sketches and reference files. Cost: $10 for the two-hour session. Proceeds go to the two models. Supplies: Bring your own lap drawing board, sketch pad, drawing tools and camera. A tripod for your camera is a good idea as some light levels will be low, but do not hesitate to move around and take low and high angle shots, too. We won’t be using easels for this session as we’ll need room for character movement. Class size: limited to 20 artists. Models will move about the room so the artists who are sketching do not have to change locations. A word about the models: These are characters played by serious artists, not professional art models. The session will include lots of dynamic gesture poses and some still and seated poses. PHOTO INFO: Left: Amerie Helton in her persona as Dervila ni Leanon, a Norse storyteller from the Kingdom of Atlantia of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Right: US Cultural Ambassador Ronald Rand in his celebrated performance as Harold Clurman in his solo play, "LET IT BE ART!"
