Color Mixing in Oils Workshop In this workshop, we will explore value strings, a method developed and taught by American artist Frank Vincent DuMond. Students will create gradual, stepped mixtures of individual colors, such as blue, green, and violet, ranging from light to dark. We will also examine the prismatic palette, which uses premixed strings of prismatic colors arranged in carefully controlled value steps. This organized approach helps artists mix colors more efficiently and accurately capture light, shadow, depth, and atmospheric perspective in an oil painting. Students should bring: Oil Paint: Titanium White Yellow cool ( Lemon or cadmium light) Yellow warm (Cadmium Yellow) Red warm ( Cadmium light red) Red cool (Alizarin Chrimson) Blue cool (Cobalt) Blue warm (Ultramarine) Phthalo Blue and/or Viridian Dark Brown- Burnt/Raw Umber ,Van Dyke, Sepia . Palette - neutral gray palette - toned gray or a piece of glass with grey paper works. Canvas - 8x10 or 9x12 with tooth, not slick gesso panel unless specified . Palette knife . 1” and ½” Flat and a medium round brush at minimum. (SOFT brushes -I sometimes use watercolor brushes for my oils) . Linseed Oil, Mineral spirits in sealed container - metal or glass. Q-Tips , Papertowels- Viva Brand is the best!

If you are unable to attend the course: * Notify us 7 or more days before the class (email us at artists@tracksidestudios.com) for a full refund * Notify us 3-6 days before the class for a 50% refund In order to ensure our teachers are reimbursed for their preparation and the materials they purchase for each student, there is no refund for cancelations 2 or fewer days before the class or non-attendance.
