Encaustics

Kate has been working in wax for over 15 years and finds the natural world and its textures and colors an inspiration for the encaustic work. She began her art career as a potter studying at Penland School of Craft and Arrowmont and was artist in residence at Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock, NC, as well as showing work at Doe Ridge Gallery in Boone. She prefers working in encaustic because it is a medium that suits her varied interests and lets her express whatever ideas happen to come forth that day.

Kate has taught individuals at her home studio and has conducted classes at Trackside. Her goal is to introduce people to encaustics and encourage them to use their existing skills, ideas and mediums to explore wax and what it can do. Her encaustic work incorporates watercolor, oil, photographs and found objects along with the wax.
