Service Description

This oil painting class explores the expressive power of limitation, using a single color and paper towels to create a richly atmospheric monochrome landscape focused on the subject of mist. Students will learn to build depth, light, and mood through subtle tonal shifts, capturing the softness and quiet mystery of misty environments without relying on multiple hues or traditional brushes. Working with paper towels encourages a loose, intuitive approach—lifting, blending, and shaping the paint to suggest drifting fog, distant forms, and dissolving edges. Emphasis is placed on value, composition, and the delicate play of light within the mist, allowing each landscape to धीरे emerge through softness and suggestion. Ideal for both beginners and experienced painters, this class invites participants to slow down, simplify their process, and discover how restraint can lead to striking, luminous, and atmospheric results. Student should bring: Oil Paint: just 1 tube- Van Dyke Brown , Burnt or Raw Umber(or a very dark brown) Palette - gray is best Canvas (panel or stretch) - size 12x16 or 16x20 - must have canvas not smooth gesso board. 1” soft flat brush Mineral spirits in sealed container - metal or glass Q-Tips & Papertowels- Viva Brand CLOTH like is the best!
